Firefighters with the Incident Management team battling the Elk Fire performed structure protection of the Big Goose Water Treatment Plant last week and implemented strategic firing operations near the facility to remove fuel at a slower rate toward the main fire. At Monday’s Sheridan City Council study session, City Administrator Stu McCrae said that both the structure protection measures and strategic firing operations were a success.

McCrae said the eight inch water intake pipe that serves as a backup is working well and they would be able to revert to it if the main water intake failed. Firefighters may get some relief Thursday and Friday, as the forecast is calling for rain and snow and much cooler temperatures both days.
